The model of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) was created in the early 1970's as a result of detailed research into the practices of the best therapists at that time.

With so many different therapies available the researchers set out to uncover and then understand what was the secret of getting the best results.

Their ideas were expanded and revised to form the basis of NLP Therapy.

NLP Therapy is brief compared with other types of therapy.

NLP Therapy is not about revisiting past experiences it is about how your perception of (and therefore relationshiop to) those experiences creates your present state and so determines your future.
By understanding how we create our experiences we are then in a position to change them and choose to create better ones.

The work done in NLP Therapy is generative and therefore will positively impact on areas of your life.

The NLP Therapy model for change:

Present State(PS) + Resources(R) = Desired State(DS)

...where the recources are 'enabling states' drawn from your own experiences.

This can involve you changing limiting beliefs, acquiring new beliefs and /or gaining insights into patterns of behaviour, thereby enabling more choice.

Theoretical Basis

The NLP model is broadly based and draws on concepts from many areas of psychology and psychotherapy.

Influences stem from the Gestalt 'school' , the family therapy of Virginia Satir, Ericksonian brief therapy and humanistic psychology.

There are also clear links with the fields of systems theory, behavioural psychology and linguistics.

Because NLP is generative as well as remedial, work with an NLP psychotherapist or counsellor can move on from dealing with past limitations to future performance in order to achieve personal and professional goals.
